چکیده

Livestock keepers in southwestern Burkina Faso hold the local Lobi taurine breed, Zebu cattle, and their crosses. Some communities region have begun to implement community-based cattle breeding programs (CBBPs), which involve animal tagging recording and, potentially, also bull sharing. Based on hypothesis that participation of livestock CBBPs depends attitudes towards these programs, we used questionnaires survey 125 farmers strategies tools. Results were analyzed using principal component analysis. Farmers showed a highly positive attitude maintaining features preferred but varied substantially crossbreeding for breed improvement. generally agreed performance was more important than appearance, most them willing cooperate with breeders’ associations skeptical about sharing bulls other farmers. The majority reluctant record data, may be due capacity deficit confidence being able select best animals based purely phenotype. Our analysis suggests associations, as key CBBPs, should lay down clear rules obligations members from outset. Timely consideration farmers’ different tools improve uptake guarantee sustainability CBBPs.

Software was developed to predict selection responses and rates of inbreeding from livestock breeding programs. Variance components are needed as input for the program, which subsequently enables the user to evaluate various breeding program designs. Consequently, breeding program structures with discrete (e.g., fish or poultry breeding) or overlapping generations (e.g., pig or cattle breeding)...
